Welcome to Chess Ladies Graz
In Memory of Eva Moser

Dear chess friends,

It’s an honor and pleasure to welcome you to the Chess Ladies Graz tournament, a classic round-robin tournament featuring 5 top international and 5 Austrian female players.

With this tournament, we want to particularly commemorate the 5th anniversary of Eva Moser’s passing and remind all chess fans of Eva’s legacy.

Eva, the greatest Austrian female chess player of modern times, moved to Graz after finishing her school and spent the rest of her life here. Graz was therefore the best fitting location for this memorial tournament. The Palais Attems, with its magnificent halls, provides a venue that truly breathes with a chess history.

The honorary president of the Austrian Chess Federation, Kurt Jungwirth, worked here for decades and numerous grandmasters’ tournaments were organized here as well. Even the 12th World Chess Champion Anatolij Karpov played at Palais Attems once.

I would particularly like to take this opportunity to thank Regina Theissl-Pokorna and Denise Trippold, who with a great passion and dedication made the organization of this tournament possible!

We can look forward to exciting battles and all guests are warmly welcome.
Of course, I also hope for some notable achievements by our Austrian players!

I wish all the best to the players and I’m looking forward to meet numerous chess fans personally. I hope that everyone will enjoy the tournament.

Michael Stöttinger
President of the Austrian Chess Federation
